Nigeria – Six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft being first bash of the American built military ware ordered by Nigeria have arrived Kano.
According to our security source, they landed this Thursday, July 22, 2021 at about 12.34pm.
The weapons were received by the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao.
The A-29s are expected to improve counter insurgency operations being light attack aircrafts that are carriers of a wide variety of weapons, including precision-guided munitions.
The United States Department of Defence had awarded the contract for the manufacturing of 12 A-29 Super Tucano combat aircraft on behalf of the Nigerian Air Force following the approval of Nigeria’s request by the Trump administration.
The contract was awarded to an American aerospace contractor, Sierra Nevada Corporation, for an initial sum of $329 million.
